ZOE’s Ownership History

Built in June 2013 in France and shipped by cargo ship to dealer Simpson Marine for delivery to her Singapore based first owner for exploring Southeast Asia.

In 2017, she was sold to an Australian who shipped her by cargo ship back to Europe with the dream of full time sailing the Mediterranean and beyond.   He put her on the market a year later due to personal reasons, as the full time cruising life did not suit his partner as well as it did him.

We purchased her from the second owner in Tunisia in February of 2018 and we moved aboard later that summer, with the plan to start in the Med, cross to the Caribbean and eventually onwards with the goal of basing Zoe in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico (closer to our home in the southwest of America).

Our first year of ownership was focused on cruising Croatia (the owner’s ancestral homeland) and getting used to seasonal living on Zoe.  She was hauled out at Marina Planais in Northern Italy for winter on land.  Several upgrades like folding props, new trampoline, etc were done that winter.

2019 – 2021 was spent in Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Greece with Cleopatra marina in Preveza Greece as our winter storage location safely on the hard.   In June of 2019, Zoe’s factory AGM batteries went flat so it was decided to take the opportunity to professionally upgrade the electrical system in Pula Croatia to an all Victron lithium setup with a large inverter and upgraded charging systems.  A large solar array on a custom stainless steel davit was also fabricated and installed.

The next four winters our home base was in Greece at Marina Cleopatra.  The marina’s technical department took good care of Zoe while we returned to America for winter to help ensure smooth sailing during the prime cruising season of summer.  Many pages of invoices can be provided to the buyer documenting work on everything from sail drive boot seals to generator refurbishment.

2022 We ventured west to Southern Italy, Sicily and back to our base at Cleopatra marina in Preveza for winter.

2023  With a goal of making westward progress to stage for an Atlantic crossing, we put Preveza in our wake and headed to Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica.  We crossed over to Mainland France and stored Zoe for winter at Port Navy Service in Port St Louis Du Rhone.

2024 An extensive refit was completed on Zoe as the 10 year mark for standing rigging had passed and a new rig was needed for insurance purposes to cross the Atlantic.   This and other items were completed (like new Genoa furler, all sails inspected and refurbished) to be ready for the crossing. With a need to exit the EU for VAT temporary import reasons we sailed south to Tunisia  and then back to Italy for winter storage near Rome.  Custom Corian counters and dinghy chaps were made while in Tunisia.

2025 We returned to Zoe in March for an early start and were going to head west to Spain and then the Canaries to stage for a winter crossing.    News of grandchildren on the way had us abort the crossing and make the decision to sell Zoe and return to America permanently.   Zoe is currently for sale while in transit slowly from Rome to her reserved winter storage location in Bari Italy.
